Did you know that racism was a public health crisis? If you're darker than a paperbag and alive on the face of the planet earth then you've known this for quite some time. On November 15, 2022, the Hennepin County Board set aside $400,000.00 of Hennepin County’s Pandemic Recovery funds to back initiatives to train and employ the youth in the neighborhood where an unarmed black man, Mr. George Floyd was murdered by ex-cop and current tool of white supremacy, Derek Chauvin.
The scene of this horrific state-sanctioned murder is 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the surrounding neighborhood is mainly occupied by Black and Latino people and some people of Asian descent. The area has been the subject of national news since 2020 and as a result, the city has taken an extra regard to facilitate the upkeep and improvement of the area. It is important to stay up to date on the latest changes to the plans to "improve" the area if we are going to influence the change.
These are OUR youth and the city need to only facilitate OUR ideas. We are the people that power the Government. If we don't have plans then we plan for our youth to fail. So what are they? What are your plans "to establish positive economic impact by increasing opportunities for jobs and training for youth impacted by the pandemic within a three-mile radius of the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as illustrated by the map" on the left. The focuses area for the RFP are: (1) Youth employment and education and (2) Employer and business engagement.
